Comments about Right to Recover

Yvonne,

Your book Right to Recover: Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research in America is really good because I know nothing about the subject and this is telling me in laymen's terms. That is what I really like about it. I can follow it and understand what I'm reading. And shame on those who feel threatened by the research.

Stem Cell Legislation in Minnesota

A proposed law in Minnesota, HF 34/SF 100 is a permissions bill for SCNT and ESCR. It allows for state funding but does not state an amount. It should have had money included, but it is a good bill.

On April 25, 2007, the Minnesota Senate gave preliminary approval to HF 34/SF 36-26 in favor. In a familiar pattern, almost all Democrats voted yes for the stem cells, almost all Republicans voted no—and another Republican, Governor Tim Pawlenty, was expected to veto it.

Research is Only Half the Battle

A California bill, SB 771 (Kuehl, Runner), was due to be heard at the finance committee last Monday. This bill is a threat to the application of the research results—putting at risk the development of research into usable products and actual cures.

Senate Bill 771 sounds good at first—even to the choice of numbers on the bill, so that it sounds like Proposition 71—and who would not want the state to receive financial rewards for its investment? Everything came down to one man’s decision, Senator Tom Torlakson. He could either let the bill come to a vote immediately, or put it into the “suspense file”, which meant more time would be taken to study it.

Research is only half the battle. After scientists do their heroic labors, and find a potential cure, it must still be developed into a product, and then made available to the public. It costs an average one billion dollars to take one new medicine from tested concept to available product. As a result, many good ideas die before they are developed.

The development of these products has been funded with private money. For a corporation to risk that kind of money, they need ownership. But what if there are so many requirements the corporations do not get involved, and there are no cures to share?

Senate Bill 771 would impose an endless royalty (a tax by any other name) of 2-5% on all products which spring from California’s new stem cell program, plus 25% of net licensing revenues, plus a complicated formula guaranteeing access to low-income Californians.

DID YOU KNOW…

…that the term “embryonic” stem cell research is a misnomer? The research is not performed on a fish-like embryo; it is conducted on a cluster of cells known as a blastocyst.

…that fertilization and conception are two separate occurrences? Many people believe they are one in the same and when an egg is fertilized it is automatically an embryo. With in-vitro assistance as part of the reproductive process, fertilization can occur inside or outside the body. Conception can not.

…that adult stem cells and those found in cord blood and amniotic fluid do not have the same properties? They can not do the same things. They have distinctively different abilities.

…that there is a difference between an embryo and a blastocyst? The term embryo is used to refer to the first two months of development after conception. Conception cannot occur in a laboratory. Only blastocysts, eggs, sperm, zygotes and morulas exist in fertility clinics.

…that there is Biblical proof that blastocystic stem cell research is a gift from our Creator? Scriptures show that according to John 1:3, “All things are created by God and without Him nothing has been created that was created.” Stem cell technology used to create healing is part of God’s perfect plan. We have the privilege to carefully use the knowledge and abilities we are given.

…that the Bush Administration’s” right-wing” stance on blastocystic stem cell research is based on an opinion that cannot be supported by scientific fact or scripture? Those in opposition have no biological basis for believing that stem cells derived from 3- to 5-day-old fertilized eggs cultivated in a laboratory are human embryos.

…that America was not founded upon Christianity? That may be what you were taught, but proof of such is not reflected in the writings of our founding fathers. In fact, the first six American presidents were actually opposed to it. The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States prevents legislation that establishes a national religion by Congress or one that prefers or supports one religion over another.

Story Angles for Right to Recover

Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research in America Yvonne Perry
ISBN: 9781933449418

This book has many media angles for a journalist to cover. Here are a few suggestions:

Stem Cell Research Education: The basics of the science of stem cell research, in-vitro procedure, and cloning. There are four reasons why all types of stem cell research should be pursued to find treatment and possibly cures for illnesses. Learn the facts about days-old blastocysts and the possibility these cells hold. Discover why a fish-looking embryo cannot possibly exist in a Petri dish. Understand the difference between conception and fertilization.

Biblical Support for Embryonic Stem Cell Research: Yvonne is dedicated to helping people of faith understand the incredible gift the Creator has given humanity through blastocystic (embryonic) stem cell research. In her attempt to educate the public and lawmakers about this science she uses Biblical references to demonstrate why stem cell research of any kind is of God, not against God.

Religion—No Place in Government: America was not founded upon Christianity or any other religion. Our founding fathers intended for there to be a separation of Church and State. There are religious groups who use their power to convince everyone that blastocyst stem cells have less potential than adult stem cells. These groups believe that an embryo is killed as a result of stem cell research. Learn the truth about blastocystic stem cell research and the schemes used by ultra conservative religious right groups to sidetrack federal funding for blastocystic stem cell research.

California Institute for Regeneration wins 3-year Court Battle

It has been almost three years since anti-abortion groups launched a lawsuit attacking the California Institute for Regeneration. That fight is officially over! The lawsuits are gone, the major funding can begin. Here is a statement from the California State Controller’s Office:

Supreme Court of California Upholds Will of the Voters

SACRAMENTO – State Controller John Chiang today made the following statement in response to today’s Supreme Court ruling denying the petition to review the constitutionality of Proposition 71:

“I am pleased that the Supreme Court has reaffirmed the voters’ will and ended the litigation that tied up the funding for California’s investment in stem cell research.

“California can now issue the $3 billion in bonds to fund and accelerate stem cell research, offering hope of potential life-saving medical discoveries. Today’s ruling will also help the State move quickly to foster opportunities in medical science and new technologies.”

Controller Chiang chairs the California Financial Accountability Oversight Committee of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, and also appoints members to the Institute’s Independent Citizens Oversight Committee.

Ms. Yvonne Perry has written a marvelous book on Stem Cell research with her volume Right to Recover. It is extensively researched, closely reasoned, and obviously very close to her heart. The book is chocked full of facts and figures and yet it is in a readable style that makes all the dry statistics seem not at all burdensome. When the book comes out in Sept. 2007 I would highly recommend getting a copy and studying it closely for the facts, both political and scientific, included there in. The only trouble with Ms. Perrys book is that it will probably never be read by the people who truly need to understand its import. Ms. Perry is preaching to the choir in this wonderful volume and, so long as the present administration and its wrong-headed, self-righteous backers are in power, nothing is going to change. Nevertheless, the book is drop dead great.

A Straussian Waltz Down a Slippery Slope

by Steve Bhaerman

Although we would like to believe that the principles that guided America's founding fathers are still in operation, the sad truth is that the principles of truth, justice and transparency have been overridden by a new operating system called "neo-conservatism" which is neither "neo" nor conservative. The "neocon" is actually a very old con called "the end justifies the means." And that brings us to Leo Strauss, the man considered the "founding father" of neoconservatism.

Leo Strauss, who was born in Germany and who taught at the University of Chicago from 1949-69, brought Machiavelli into the machine age. He unabashedly believed in manipulation and deception, all of which he deemed necessary to rule the unruly masses. According to Shadia Drury, author of Leo Strauss and the American Right, Strauss believed that "those who are fit REto rule are those who realize there is no morality and there is only one natural right -- the right of the superior to rule over the inferior."

Strauss was a strong believer in religion -- as a way of imposing "moral law" on the populace, who would otherwise be out of control. He would have agreed with Marx that religion was the "opiate of the masses," only he had no qualms about being a drug dealer. The rulers, of course, didn't have to live by the rules of religion. Says Ronald Bailey, science correspondent for Reason magazine: "Neoconservatives are pro-religion even though they themselves may not be believers."

In the tradition of Thomas Hobbes, Strauss believed humans are inherently evil and need strong external control -- and an external enemy. As he once wrote, "Because mankind is intrinsically wicked, he has to be governed. Such governance can only be established, however, when men are united -- and they can only be united against other people."

According to Drury, Strauss believed that "if no external threat exists, one has to be manufactured." Interestingly enough, Strauss's neocon disciples William Kristol, Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Perle (along with Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld) helped found a think tank called the Project for the New American Century (PNAC) in the 1990s. A PNAC document, Rebuilding America's Defenses has been a guiding force for the Bush-Cheney White House. According to PNAC, the only way to assure America's safety in the 21st century is by being the only superpower on the block, what they referred to as Pax Americana. Of course, since the Iraq War many around the world are calling it a "Pox Americana."

Perhaps the most telling quote in the Rebuilding America's Defenses document refers to needing a "catastrophic and catalyzing event -- like a new Pearl Harbor" to mobilize the masses for this undertaking (pun intended). The neocons insist this was an innocuous quote taken out of context. However, when seen in the context of Leo Strauss's core beliefs, it's easy to make the connection and see the 9/11 attacks as the "catalyzing event" that launched the so-called "war on terror." In fact, author and theologian David Ray Griffin called his sober account debunking the official 9/11 story The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions about the Bush Administration and 9/11. Whether or not the attacks were an "inside job," they were certainly used in classic Straussian fashion to create national unity and control through perpetual war.

Griffin, a well-respected mainstream theologian who has written and edited 30 books, contends that the official 9/11 story has been given the "halo of religious mythology." Like the infallibility of the Pope in the Church or the primacy of matter in scientific materialism, questioning the official 9/11 story is taboo. Consequently, most people fail to see the red flags that are literally in plain sight:

– The official story was in place within 48 hours of the event, before any investigation was undertaken.

– The official "remedy," the so-called Patriot Act (a 342-page document that many legislators signed without reading), appeared as if by magic and was ratified in an atmosphere of panic -- right on the heels of Democratic legislators receiving packets of deadly anthrax, a crime that has never been "solved."

– No satisfactory explanation has ever been given as to how and why the world's most sophisticated air defense system "stood down" in the most deadly attacks ever on American soil. And no one was held accountable.

Transcripts of testimony released at the insistence of 9/11 families -- from firefighters, police and eyewitnesses -- mention over and over again a "series of explosions" and the towers coming down in their tracks, "just like a planned demolition."

– When there finally was an investigation, only testimony supporting the official version of the story was allowed. Imagine, if you will, a court case where there was no conflicting evidence ... case closed.

Chronic Disease

There are a whole lot of folks with chronic disease.

According to the National Center for Chronic Disease (*http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/) more than half a million Americans (594, 899) have died of chronic disease in the first five months of this year. These diseases account for 7 of every 10 deaths and affect the quality of life of 90 million Americans. In the U.S. alone, between three and four thousand citizens die every day from chronic disease—folks like these might be helped by the stem cell research the Bush Administration fights so vigorously against.

America needs forward-looking leadership in the statehouses and in Washington as well.

Stem Cell Research: Scientists Will Need to Explore All Types of Cells to Find Treatment for More Illnesses and Conditions

Right to Recover: Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research in America Compares Embryonic Stem Cells with Adult Stem Cells and Gives Reasons Why Both Should be Federally Funded

A new book written by Nashville author, Yvonne Perry, challenges preconceived religious and political ideas in hopes of changing the way Americans view blastocystic (embryonic) stem cell research. Right to Recover: Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research in America will be released this fall by Nightengale Press to coincide with the start up of the 2008 presidential election campaigns.

If cord blood, amniotic fluid, and bone marrow contain stem cells, why do we need research on blastocyst stem cells? The simple truth is there are no substitutes. While cord blood, amniotic fluid, adult stem cells, reprogramming of cells and other alternate research certainly deserve study, no credible expert supports using them as a replacement for blastocysts stem cells leftover from in-vitro fertilization.

There are no moral issues attached to the use of cord blood and amniotic fluid, but like adult stem cells, these have already differentiated and have different characteristics than in-vitro blastocyst (IV-B) stem cells. Days-old blastocyst stem cells allow a range of research on the very earliest stages of human development and are more versatile than adult stem cells or fetal cells extracted months later from amniotic fluid or from cord blood at birth.

Scientists are still trying to discover which set of stem cell characteristics will ultimately be needed to cure or treat certain diseases. Here are a few key features we know about IV-B stem cells and adult stem cells (ASC):

1. IV-B stem cells are indefinite, robust, and self-renewable. IV-B stem cells can transform into virtually any type of cell of the body. Pluripotency disappears as differentiation occurs and development continues.

2. ASCs are limited in the number of cells they are able to transform into; in other words, they can only create more of the same type of cells as they already are. For that reason, adult cells are not able to do the same things as IV-B stem cells, which have the characteristics researchers believe are needed to cure some diseases.

3. Stem cells exist in relatively large numbers in IV-Bs. IV-Bs will not always be needed once a stem cell line of every race and condition is created by nuclear transfer cloning.

4. ASC or multipotent progenitor stem cells have not yet been found in all tissues of the body. In fact, they are scarce in the brain. If neural stem cells are needed, they must be generated from blastocyst stem cells. Bone marrow stem cells must be revved up with medication to stimulate their growth before they can be used for transplantation in the treatment of cancer.

Any knowledge gained from blastocyst stem cells will complement studies of adult and all other types of stem cells, and vice versa. Most scientists agree that therapy advances will be found by responsibly investigating all aspects of stem cell biology.

“Regardless of whether the therapies come from adult stem cells, cord blood, amniotic fluid, or IV-B research, all of humanity stands to profit from stem cell treatment and technology,” says Perry. “Whether it comes from the U.S. or another country, the cure for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, heart disease, spinal cord injury, diabetes, or other illness or injuries is within reach.”

With a foreword by Dr. Evan Snyder of Burnham Institute and endorsements from Cure Paralysis Now, Don C. Reed of California’s Prop 71, Christopher Reeve Foundation, and many others, Perry’s book, while controversial, is a concise and accurate picture of the biology and legislation regarding stem cell research in the U.S and globally.

Reverend Dan Bloodworth of The Brian Bloodworth Stroke and Head Injury Research Foundation gave Ms. Perry Biblical references to support blastocystic stem cell research. An entire chapter is dedicated to helping Christians understand this incredible gift God has given humanity. Rev. Bloodworth says, “It is such a pleasure to work with a writer like Yvonne Perry.
She has truly researched the research and spent hundreds of hours to find the facts to share with the readers of RIGHT TO RECOVER. Over the years I have read literally thousands of articles and documents from around the world about this subject and RIGHT TO RECOVER is the most complete work I have ever read. It provides an honest evaluation and asks readers to consider the facts and then form their own opinion instead of listening to people who have never researched the subject.”

Federal Funding for Embryonic Stem Cell Research—a Leveraging Tool for the Democratic Party in Presidential Campaigns

Right to Recover: Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research in America—a new book by Nashville Author, Yvonne Perry, is a Must-Read for Candidates

Nashville, TN -- Recent polls and studies show that 70 percent of Americans and 63 percent of Democrats agree that research should be allowed on IVF-derived blastocysts leftover from couples seeking assistance with fertility regardless of the date they are created. Most Republican leaders have adamantly opposed the research due to their belief that a human life is destroyed in the process. This allegory has been used by the Bush Administration to garner additional support for adult stem cell research which already receives federal funding. Ultra-conservative right wing groups report that multipotent cells have the same characteristics and abilities as totipotent and pluripotent cells, yet this theory has not been proven. In fact, adult stem cells have proven safety and efficacy on only nine conditions.

The pub date for Right to Recover: Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research in America—a book thoroughly covering all types of stem cell research—has been strategically selected to coincide with the start up of the 2008 presidential election campaigns this fall. As the debate heats up over who will take the seat in the White House, issues such as federal funding for blastocystic (some call it embryonic) stem cell research will be topic affecting which candidate people will vote for.

Yvonne Perry is a published author and the owner of Write On Creative Writing Services. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Metaphysics and has a gift for being lovingly controversial and challenging people’s belief systems in order to help them grow.

With over 400 hours of research and interviews with scientific and religious experts, Yvonne Perry presents an educational gift to readers in Right to Recover while expressing true hope for healing through all types of stem cell biology. Since the topic will be a leveraging tool in the Presidential election campaigns —especially for the Democratic Party, it would behoove candidates to take notes from Perry’s book.

Interviews included are with: Dr. Madan Jagasia, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Susan Fajt, patient who was scammed by the creators of the fabricated Prentice List and Mary Schneider, whose son was infused with his own cord blood stem cells. Facts were checked by Don C. Reed of California’s Prop 71 and Shane G. Smith, Ph.D. Science Director, CNS Foundation, Former Science Director, ‘Yes on Proposition 71.’

Dr. Smith says, “Yvonne Perry counters long-standing myths of the American stem cell debate with bright, accessible prose. Policymakers and everyday citizens who want to make informed choices about stem cell research need to read Right to Recover.”

Announcing an Educational Book on Stem Cell Research for People Who Don’t Have (or Want) a Degree in Biology

Right to Recover, Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research in America—an easy to understand, comprehensive book that challenges assumptions and opinions about research that uses stem cells left over from in-vitro process.

Nashville, TN -- Without being overly academic, Right to Recover gives an accurate picture of the controversial field of embryonic (blastocystic) stem cell research and highlights the progress of therapies resulting from adult stem cell research as well as those from stem cells found in cord blood and amniotic fluid.

The book covers all types of stem cell research and explains why a fish-looking embryo cannot possibly exist in a Petri dish. Author Yvonne Perry says that the belief that a human life is being taken by removing a few cells from an in vitro blastocyst (IV-B) is a ploy to delay funding for a science that may likely produce effective treatments and possible cures for many illnesses and conditions.

“People have heard and read this erroneous report so many times they actually believe the research kills a baby,” says Perry. “Instead of doing research to find out what really goes on in the lab, they believe what they are told by political and religious leaders who are promoting their own agenda through the media.”

As a highly-sought after ghostwriter, Yvonne Perry has authored many books with her clients’ names appearing on the cover. In fact, it was a client, Reverend Dan Bloodworth, who got her interested in stem cell research. The Bloodworth’s son has been in a stage 4 coma for nearly 20 years. In a search for anything that might restore his son’s ability to move and communicate, the “all-denominational” evangelist researched every treatment available worldwide. When Dan learned about stem cell research he knew he had found hope and believes till this day that his son can be helped by therapies or technologies developed from blastocystic stem cell research. With Dan sharing his 16 years worth of files, contact information, and Biblical references supporting blastocystic stem cell research, Perry decided to attempt to educate the public and lawmakers about this science by writing a book with her own name on the cover.

“I wrote the book so everyone can understand blastocystic stem cell research without needing a dictionary or a degree in biology. People need to know the scientific facts in order to make a more informed opinion about the research,” says Perry.

Nightengale Press, a medium-sized publisher located in Wisconsin, grabbed the manuscript for what is now a 300-page book before it had a chance to be seen at larger publishing houses. Nightengale President, Valerie Connelly, knows a good thing when she sees one. “When Yvonne pitched her book idea to me, she hadn’t even started the manuscript,” says Connelly. “But she showed so much passion and demonstrated such great knowledge on the subject, I was intrigued enough to say ‘yes’ to her request for publication. I couldn’t let this book get away. Right to Recover has a great potential not only as a commercial success in the book market, but also as a catalyst for a change in federal legislation regarding blastocyst stem cell research.”

The pub date for the book is October 2007 with online sales beginning in late summer. Nightengale Press plans to have advanced reading copies of the Right to Recover available in time for one of the largest annual American trade shows. Book Expo America 2007 will be held at the Javits Center in Manhattan as thousands of booksellers, librarians, book publicists, authors and distributors gather to browse thousands of titles on exhibit from hundreds of publishers.

Religion Has No Place in Government or in the Decision Regarding Federal Funding for Stem Cell Research

Metaphysical Author Challenges Separation of Church and State in Her Controversial Book on Stem Cell Research

A new book written by Nashville author, Yvonne Perry, challenges preconceived ideas in hopes of changing the way Americans view blastocystic (embryonic) stem cell research. Right to Recover: Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research in America will be released this fall by Nightengale Press to coincide with the start up of the 2008 presidential election campaigns.

You may not realize it, but America was not founded upon Christianity. That may be what you were taught in school, but proof of such is not reflected in the writings of our founding fathers. Billy Graham agrees that the United States of America is not a Christian Nation. In a televised interview on May 30, 1997, David Frost asked Mr. Graham, “Say, is this still a Christian Country?” To which Billy Graham replied, “No! We’re not a Christian Country. We’ve never been a Christian country. We’re a secular country, by our constitution. In which Christians live and which many Christians have a voice. But we’re not a Christian Country.

There can be no religious freedom whenever religion controls the masses through the government. Yet, this is exactly what has occurred in the U.S. Each time a law is passed giving government jurisdiction over what happens in a person’s home, marriage, healthcare or religion, we lose another personal right that was assured to us in the founding documents of our country.
Time and time again, religious groups have violated our Constitutional right to keep church and state separate. The neoconservative and fundamentalists’ unfounded opinion about blastocystic stem cell research is hindering the physical health of our nation.
“Only a lack of knowledge and stubbornness could cause someone to oppose this science and fight to withhold funding for research that offers such potential to help humanity,” says Perry. “In my book, I will address the lack of knowledge with factual information provided from the experts I have interviewed. Many people who oppose the research do not know why they believe what they believe because they have been programmed by religious leaders to think a certain way. I will take modern-day Christianity back to its original roots in order to challenge the limited mindset that stems from organized religion and show how it does not belong in government.”

The book is set to be released by Nightengale Press in October 2007. To preorder your copy now, go to http://www.nightengalepress.com/ . Schemes Exposed, Truth Revealed in a Controversial New Book on Embryonic Stem Cell Research

A New Book by Nashville Author—Right to Recover: Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research in America—is Nearly as Controversial as the Research Topic it Covers.

Nashville, TN -- In October 2007, America will have a chance to learn the truth about embryonic stem cell research and the schemes used by ultra conservative religious right groups to sidetrack federal funding for blastocystic (embryonic) stem cell research. After eight months of intensive research and interviews with experts in the field, Nashville-based author and freelance writer, Yvonne Perry, has finalized her manuscript for Right to Recover, Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research in America.

The label “embryonic” is misleading because it conjures images of a fish-looking body swimming in a Petri dish. The clump of cells in the lab dish is called a blastocyst. Using this term is correct and it does not give false ideas about what the science is and what it does. It does not kill babies as some religious groups have alleged.

By vetoing The Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, President Bush ignored the wishes of 70 percent of Americans who agree that research should be allowed on blastocysts leftover from couples seeking assistance with fertility regardless of the date they are created. President Bush and many ultra-conservative right-wing religious groups adamantly oppose blastocystic stem cell research due to their erroneous belief that a human life is destroyed in the process. They have used this theory and their religious power to convince people that multipotent (adult) stem cells have the same characteristics and abilities as totipotent and pluripotent (embryonic) stem cells.

“There are groups who want everyone to believe that blastocyst stem cells have less potential than adult stem cells and those found in amniotic fluid or umbilical cord blood. The opposite is more likely to be true since the cells found in blastocysts have not differentiated or established themselves as a certain type of cell,” says Perry. “However, since research using these cells has not been given equal opportunity with financial and political support, we are yet to see the outcome. Until the research has been tested and either approved or disapproved for general use and until human trials are conducted, the assumption that blastocyst stem cells have not presented any useful treatment is not valid.”

After distinguishing “people of faith” from the ultra-conservative “religious right,” Perry uses her own experience with religion to demonstrate the way fundamentalist religious leaders misuse their power to control congregations of people who honestly believe they are serving God by following mandates, dogma, and political opinions of their leaders who have not researched the science. With an entire chapter devoted to Bible verses, Reverend Dan Bloodworth gives support that stem cell research of any kind is of God, not against God. “According to John 1:3, ‘all things are created by God and without Him nothing has been created that was created,’” says Bloodworth. “The science of stem cell technology is created by God.”

Already, proponents for blastocyst stem cell research have put their seal of approval on Perry’s book. Don C. Reed (Roman Reed Spinal Cord Injury Research Act), who provided editing and checking of facts says, “Yvonne Perry’s book enrages and inspires: it leaves you with the feeling that something must be done, that it can be done, and that it will be done—because we will do it. This book changes the equation.”

Health Freedom in the Hands of the House Now

Tell Your Representative to Protect You, Not Big Pharma Before It is, Literally, Too Late!

The Senate of the United States passed S. 1082 on May 9, 2007 with just one dissenting vote. Now the House of Representatives is up to bat. The House will vote on identical legislation and can kill the bill, amend it or pass it just as it comes from the Senate.

Your health hangs in the balance. Reading through the suggested letter prepared for you to send to your Representatives by the Natural Solutions Foundation you can see that there are a number of dangerous Big Pharma Give-Aways in this dangerous and highly destructive bill.

Please take the time to send this letter, or your own version of it, to your Representatives and let them know that this is a matter of critical importance to you and that you WILL be watching their performance.

Send a letter now!

After you send your letter by clicking on the link above, please take a moment to forward this information to everyone in your circle of influence and urge them to take action and then forward this action item to everyone THEY know. Volume of response is our best, and at this point, our ONLY tool for maintaining and protecting our health from the predatory and often literally life threatening FDA!

Thanks for your activism!

The Big State News Today

The big state news today of course is Massachusetts’ Governor Deval Patrick’s decision to support stem cell research and biomedicine with more than a billion dollars—$1.25 billion over ten years—even split right down the middle, that is $50 million a year for research for the next decade.

The first African-American Governor in that state, Mr. Patrick pledged to support stem cell research all throughout a singularly vicious electoral campaign, during which he was outspent 3-1 (and definitely out trash-talked) by his massively-funded Republican rival.

The people of Massachusetts wanted fresh thinking; they had had enough of Mitt Romney’s negativity on stem cells: even the Republican rival seemed to recognize this, and did not attack Patrick on his stem cell research position. Deval Patrick won overwhelmingly—and the new Governor kept his promise. If he gets his way, Massachusetts will be a world-level force in stem cell research.

CAMR

Sean Tipton, President of CAMR www.camradvocacy.org sent the following message to me last week.

CAMR has been working closely with House leadership since the passage of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act (S. 5) in the Senate on April 11, 2007.

As you know, S.5 is slightly different than the bill passed by the House in January (H.R. 3) and requires approval by the House before it can be sent to the President.

We have learned that the House intends to bring up S. 5 for a vote following the Memorial Day Recess, possibly on June 6th or 7th. We need your help to ensure that this bill passes the House by a strong majority.

Here is how you can help:

Call your Representative's district office and ask if the Representative will be in the district during the Memorial Day Recess (May 26 - June 3). Ask for a meeting or make plans to attend an event also attended by your Representative to request a yes vote on S.5. This is a great time of year for parades or county fairs; look for opportunities to see your Representative in a public forum where you can discuss the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act.

The telephone number for your Representative's district office is: Representative Bart Gordon at (615) 896-1986

Now is also the time to encourage at least 10 of your family and friends to visit our Web site to sign up as members so that we can build an even stronger voice across the nation. Urge your contacts to visit the Advocacy section and fill out the My Profile section to become members at www.camradvocacy.org.

Right to Recover at Book Expo America

BOOK EXPO AMERICA (BEA) is the largest trade show for the entire publishing industry in North America – booksellers, publishers, agents, authors, journalists, distributors, librarians, rights professionals and more.

Nightengale Press and Yvonne Perry's book Right to Recover, Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research in America will be represented by the publisher's president, Valerie Connelly at BEA in June 2007. Over 2,000 publishers and 3,000 librarians will be in attendance as well as bookstore owners from across the country.

Grandmothers and Poliltics

I guess my Nanny, was right all along; Democrats have more of a heart for the American people than Republicans. Coming from a Southern Baptist family, I never thought I'd be saying that.

I was a staunch Republican until George W. Bush became president by what I thought was curious means. My faith in the GOP started rapidly sliding downhill and hasn't stopped yet.

When I learned about the stem cell debate, I started doing research about why people were opposed to using material leftover from in-vitro fertilization to seek cures and treatments for so many illnesses. It never made sense to me why anyone would think it better to throw away blastocyst cells than to study them, but I kept on researching looking for logic that was not to be found.

Sen. John McCain, R-AZ is a supporter of embryonic stem cell research

In a report from NBC News MEET THE PRESS on June 19, 2005, Mr. Russert of NBC News interviewed Senator John McCain. Senator McCain has changed his mind about embryonic (blastocystic) stem cell research since he and 19 other senators wrote a letter stating support for banning federal funding for "research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed."

Mr. Russert asked Sen. McCain why he had changed his mind about this research. To which Senator McCain replied:

"For a large number of reasons, ranging from getting briefed by very smart people on this issue and including discussing this with Nancy Reagan who, as you know, is a very strong advocate for stem cell research. I want to make it clear that those of us who support this do not believe that it has anything to do with human cloning and all of us are against human cloning. I look forward to the debate. It's a very complex scientific issue. But for us to throw away opportunities to cure diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's and many others I think would be a mistake. I look forward to the debate. It's interesting that more than two-thirds of the American people support stem cell research."

Perry s book is that it will probably never be read by the people who truly need to understand its import. Ms. Perry is preaching to the choir in this wonderful volume and, so long as the present administration and its wrong-headed, self-righteous backers are in power, nothing is going to change. Nevertheless, the book is drop dead great.

"Why is there so much political and religious controversy over stem cell research in the United States? Author Yvonne Perry examines this very question in her new book, Right to Recover - Winning the Political and Religious Wars Over Stem Cell Research in America.

Perry believes that many political and religious leaders and anti-abortion groups have created this controversy by conveying incomplete and inaccurate information about stem cell research to the general public and then using this information to justify their own positions about such research that could lead to the recovery of millions of people who suffer from debilitating illnesses or accidents. These leaders have made stem cell research an ethical question, asserting (incorrectly) that blastocystic stem cells used for research destroy an embryo. Yet, in reality, these cells are not even organisms.

In many cases, our leaders may simply be misinformed themselves and pass on this incorrect information to others, assuming they are doing the right thing. Often times, though, there are other reasons for opposing stem cell research. It requires a lot of money, for one thing, and perhaps political leaders simply don't want federal funding used in this way.

Author Yvonne Perry strongly believes in stem cell research. She also strongly believes that the general public deserves to know the truth about this research and the resulting technology that could serve millions of people the world over.

As Perry herself says, "Right to Recover is an educational book created in hopes of shedding light upon, and making a difference in, the way we view blastocyst stem cell biology."

Perry effectively tackles the complicated task of explaining the technology of stem cell research and does so in clear, to-the-point chapters. She covers bone marrow, amniotic and cord blood stem cell treatments presently being used and their restorative effects. Her book also includes information and quotes from some of the top stem cell researchers in the world, making it clear that Perry did more than just "read up on" stem cell research in order to write about it. Perry is very thorough and answers most any question a reader could have about stem cell research and technology.

In the end, Right to Recover may not change everyone's mind about blastocyst stem cell research. But it will surely educate readers as to what this type of research is, and what it isn't. I hope it will also lead Americans to recover their right to know the whole truth about such important issues as this one.

Right to Recover: Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research in America

Yvonne Perry
Nightengale Press (2007)
ISBN 10: 1-933449-41-1
Reviewed by Cherie Fisher for Reader Views (4/07)

When I started reading “Right to Recover: Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research in America,” I thought that it would be interesting and that as an Executive Director of a healthcare not-for profit dealing with this issue, I might glean some new knowledge. The book delivered far more than I ever expected. I was completely hooked by it from beginning to end. The author, Yvonne Perry, does an excellent job in defining stem cell research and in making the case for funding of the different types of stem cell research, especially blastocyst (or embryonic) stem cell research.

Government funding for stem cell research has been a huge controversy over the past several years, especially during President Bush’s administration. The author lists the American Heritage’s dictionary definition of embryo as: an organism in its early developmental stage, before it has distinctive form; a rudimentary stage.” The blastocyst cells do not even qualify as an embryo because they have never been implanted in a woman’s uterus to begin the developmental stage. The cells that are in question to be used for research are the ones that were not used in invitro and are being discarded as medical waste.

The author makes great points about the use of the blastocysts headed for disposal “No life or death has occurred in the process. The cells scientists want to use for research are the leftover IV-Bs; no one is suggesting that the IVF be used to create blastocysts specifically for use in research. Give them funding to use the ones already headed for the biohazard containers. Let them find a way to help the living, breathing human beings who are suffering.”

So much fear is surrounding stem cell research and cloning that the amazing potential to prevent and cure diseases, rebuild bodies and so much more gets lost in these heated debates. I learned so much about the current and potential research going on in this country and around the world in this book. Perry does a great job in bringing in Biblical text that could potentially support this research. The only flaw that I found in the book was in expressing her views on the more fundamental religions. I happen to agree to with her views, but I think that adding them limits the numbers of people with more fundamental views that might read the book and learn the truth about this subject.

Overall, I found the book to be very well written, eye-opening and informative. It is written in an easy-to read manner. I highly recommend “Right to Recover” to those who are sitting on the fence with this issue.

"The promise of regeneration; the repairing of tissue; the restoration of what has been damage are the attraction of stem cell regenerative medicine. More than any other facet of medicine, unlocking the potential of stem cell therapy would be the “Holy Grail” of medicine. However the misinformation about stem cell therapy has bogged down the forward progress of researchers and led politicians and the clergy astray. Misinformation such as the fact that Yvonne Perry so eloquently brings forward, that "embryonic" stem cell therapy has nothing to do with embryos, and never will. This is an insightful and very important book that should be sent to every doctor, politician, religious leader, and definitely to anyone seeking to know the truth!"

“Every generation has been convinced of their mastery over science. At one point only a few hundred years ago, the learned proclaimed that all that can be known is now known.” With technology and information so readily available today it is tempting for many to feel they “know” what “embryonic” stem cell research is all about, most often this is the furthest from the truth. Yvonne Perry has sifted through the research and propaganda and found much of the true knowledge to date on this important topic and presented it in such a way as to appeal to the layperson and professional alike.

Title: Right to Recover: Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research In America
Author: Yvonne Perry

If you have been unable to settle on an educated opinion concerning stem cell research, this well laid out book should end your dilemma.
Stem cell research is being conducted for both medical and scientific reasons. It could be the answer to many debilitating and terminal afflictions including Cancer, Parkinson's Disease, Arthritis, Spinal Cord Injury and many more.
It is clearly evident that Yvonne Perry has spent countless hours researching the two categories of stem cells; adult and embryonic. “Adult Stem Cells” are harvested from umbilical cord blood, the placenta, amniotic fluid and bone marrow. “Embryonic Stem Cells” are harvested from fertilized eggs created in-vitro (outside the body). It has already been proven that adult stem cells can repair and regenerate diseased cells. Stem cells contain pertinent information as to how the cell develops. From this information the scientist can learn what is needed to prevent genes from becoming dysfunctional or produce drugs or treatment to cure the ones that are already diseased.

Without overstepping, Yvonne Perry presents both religious and political opinions. The facts that she enlightens us with are enough that we should all ponder what is really going on in the name of religion and politics. Just how much either can control our present and our future.

The author, Yvonne Perry has surpassed her goal of educating each reader with an honest evaluation of this controversial subject. Stem cell possibilities are without a doubt a realistic aspect of our future yet an ethical and political debate in our present. ‘Right to Recover’ is complete with Index, Appendix and Bibliography, with well laid out current information. She is a freelance writer, author, keynote speaker and ghostwriter. Her books are evidence of her natural desire to assist people along a spiritual path, as they are well researched and challenge people’s belief systems.

I would highly recommend everyone read this book. Reviewer: Cheryl Ellis, Allbooks Review

Ending The American Hostage Crisis

By Steve Bhaerman

It has nothing to do with loving or hating George Bush, whose policies have educated and awakened more Americans than all of the "progressive" leaders combined. It does have to do with what we need to recognize as the American Hostage Crisis. The American people -- and particularly our soldiers in Iraq -- are being held hostage by a ruthless criminal cadre (this is not hyperbolic invective; the definition of "criminal" is "one who commits crimes"). The people up until now have been blackmailed into supporting a war of choice with the cynical cry, "Support our troops." As if our troops sent themselves over there and now we have to rescue them.

The people of America are now at a crossroads that will determine whether the world continues hurtling down the highway to hell, or whether we change course in the direction of our true human potential, what Swami calls "humanifest destiny." I say the world because if the United States honors the intentions of our founders and accepts the evolutionary role of genuine self-governance, the entire world will cheer -- and breathe a sigh of relief. Under the guise of true moral authority, we will be able to isolate the sociopathogens in the world and deal with them as criminals instead of what we're doing now -- killing the people the criminal elements are holding hostage, and creating new converts for the criminals.

There is something positive to be built, but it cannot be built on a foundation of lies. That is why the so-called "surge" or any other policy to "stay the course" in Iraq will not succeed. The entire structure -- why we're there, what's been happening since we got there, what our future intentions are -- all lies. Those troops we are "supporting" are being sent in as surrogate targets for George Bush and the American empire, an empire that isn't even ours but belongs to a slew of multinational corporations that could care less whether America lives or dies. That's what American soldiers are discovering, sadly, that their most ardent "supporters" at home have been unwilling to face. Until now.

America's next step -- and only step -- that can take us forward is to bring the Bush-Cheney regime to justice. This isn't about vengeance, it isn't about punishment. It's about truth. That element that has been so lacking in our political environment that it has caused a spiritual, psychological and political heartsickness in the heartland. This basic lack of integrity -- that even those who overtly believe the lies still feel deep down in their guts -- is why we have the Don Imuses and the Ann Coulters. Those are the people who keep us occupied with weapons of mass-distraction, who help us aim our rage at the wrong targets.

Their brand of free speech is what Caroline Casey calls a "toxic mimic" of the real thing. The freedom of speech and freedom of press the American revolutionaries risked life and fortune for wasn't so our "commonest" of commentators could sling invectives like "faggots" and "nappy-headed ho's" but to empower citizens by letting them know what's going on. In this regard, the record of our so-called "free press" is dismal, if not traitorous. Try initiating a real conversation about the unanswered questions and unquestioned answers regarding 9/11. There you will find a stone wall of silence, or loud screaming to drown out the truth. While up until now, very few have wanted to "go there," more and more people are awakening to the tragic truth that "there" has already come "here."

The Government has no business deciding for Women

On April 18, the Supreme Court, reconfigured by President Bush, moved in a direction that further undermines Roe v. Wade and core protections for women's health.

Its 5-4 ruling in the Federal Abortion Ban opens the door for politicians like George W. Bush to interfere even more in our personal, private medical decisions. The Court has given anti-choice lawmakers the green light to launch more aggressive attacks on safe, legal abortion, without any regard for women's health.

Regardless of whether we are for or against abortion, this is an example of the government overstepping its boundaries and taking more of our rights away from us. If the government passes jurisdiction on reproductive rights now, the in-vitro fertilization process may be challenged next. Help stop the government from deciding what is best for women.

Help get a law on the books called the Freedom of Choice Act that will restore the reproductive rights recognized under the vision expressed in 1973 in Roe v. Wade.
