Pfizer creates 70 new jobs in stem cell facility launch

Pfizer has launched a new research unit to explore the use of stem cells. This comes at a time when many pharmaceutical companies are closing facilities and making sharp staff cuts, but follows a trend towards research into novel biological therapies.

Pfizer Regenerative Medicine will operate as one of Pfizer's new small, independent research units to develop future treatments that may prevent disability, repair failing organs and treat diseases such as diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases. The unit will be led by chief scientific officer Dr Ruth McKerman, who said that Pfizer believed stem cells were one of the most promising areas of scientific research.
