Fifty percent of couples donate leftover blastocysts to research

Nearly 50% of couples after undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) chose to donate their surplus, "embryos" (actually they are a lump of cells called a blastocyst) for stem cell research. When a couple understands that their leftover cells are going to be thrown away, they make an informed decision: they would rather have them used for research to help find cures than to put them in the trash or flush them down the drain. Makes sense to me.

Read the results of a report by the Spanish Stem Cell Bank in an April 26, 2007.
